Babylonian Talmud

The section dedicated to the Babylonian Talmud allows users to consult and analyze the Talmudic text through a filtered search system and interactive translation from Hebrew into English. Similarly to the *Corpus Iuris Canonici*, this section also allows the creation of notes and annotations on texts, enabling users to add observations, comments, or references to specific translated lines or sections (see *Notes and annotations management*).

In addition to note management, the module introduces specific functionalities for dynamic reading, on-demand translation, and content export, offering researchers a complete and interactive consultation tool.

From the portal homepage, by selecting the Babylonian Talmud tab, users access the section dedicated to the Talmudic corpus. The search interface is clear and minimalist, organized into a side panel with the following elements:

• Free text search → text field for entering keywords or Hebrew terms;
• Select Order → drop-down menu allowing the selection of the main Talmudic order (e.g. *Seder Moed*);
• Apply / Reset → buttons to apply or clear the entered filters.

Initially, only the Order filter is visible. Once an order is selected, for example *Seder Moed*, an additional drop-down menu dynamically appears:

• Select Treatise, which allows the selection of the corresponding treatise (e.g. *Rosh Hashanah*).

This progressive behavior enables guided navigation within the different sections of the corpus, ensuring a coherent and intuitive selection process.

After setting the filters and clicking Apply, the list of available texts for the selected parameters is displayed. Each entry corresponds to a specific section of the Talmud (e.g. *Seder Moed – Rosh Hashanah, 2a*).

Entries are:

• Presented as clickable links to access the detailed content;
• Organized into numbered pages, with the active page indicated at the bottom;
• Automatically updated based on the selected filters.

The search panel remains permanently visible on the left, while the Notes and Export buttons are available in the upper right corner of the page to access personal annotations or download the translated content.

By clicking on a title in the results list, the user accesses the detail page of the Talmudic text. The interface displays the original Hebrew text, divided into multiple lines and organized into readable blocks.

When the cursor moves over a line of text:

• The line is highlighted to indicate the current focus;
• By clicking on the line, it remains permanently highlighted and a translation side panel appears on the right.

This interaction allows selective and precise text analysis without reloading the page or altering the reading position.

The side panel, labeled Translation, displays the English translation of the selected line. The translation is automatically updated with each new selection, allowing immediate comparison between the original text and the translated version.

This dynamic translation system ensures:

• Improved readability for users who are not proficient in Hebrew;
• The ability to focus on individual passages of the text;
• Smooth and uninterrupted interaction during reading.

The Babylonian Talmud section uses the standard version of the Export button, without options specific solely to translation. The export generates a single file containing all available content for the displayed section.

The export format can be JSON or CSV, maintaining consistency with ITSERR system standards. During export, users can enable the option Include personal annotations to also include personal notes associated with the consulted lines (see *Notes and annotations management*).

This functionality allows researchers to:

• Locally save translated texts and annotations;
• Process them using external linguistic or philological analysis tools;
• Preserve the logical structure of the relationships between text and notes, ensuring traceability and interoperability.

The Notes function, available in the top bar next to Export, allows the creation and consultation of personal notes linked to specific lines of text. For detailed operation and information on note saving or export, please refer to the section *Notes and annotations management*.

The Babylonian Talmud section maintains the same graphical and functional layout as the rest of the platform, ensuring visual coherence and recognizability.

The following elements are present:

• Top tabs for navigation between corpora;
• The Logout button in the upper right corner;
• The institutional footer with the ITSERR project description, informational links (*About*, *Resources*, *Support*), and the official logos of MUR, RESILIENCE, and the University of Palermo (Unipa).
