Interaction with Results

After executing a search, the ITSERR – uBIQUITY platform allows the user to interact with the results in several ways, with the aim of facilitating analysis, annotation, and comparison of texts. Each displayed result can be considered an interactive object equipped with contextual functionalities, accessible through dedicated buttons or icons.

The main operations include:

• consultation of the source text from which the result originates;
• creation of notes and bibliographic references;
• execution of new searches based on a result;
• inclusion of the result in a comparison (compare);
• saving of the workflow associated with the search.

Each action is tracked within the system and, in the case of authenticated users, saved in their profile to ensure persistence of modifications.

Each result in the search results panel is accompanied by a set of operational icons, located next to the textual excerpt.

The main icons and their related functions are as follows:

Icon	Function	Description
	Search related	Starts a new search based on the work, text string, or texts accessible in browsing mode.
	Personal notes	Allows creation of a personal note related to that result. From the note screen, it is also possible to add or edit a related bibliographic reference.
	Source	Displays the complete section of the text from which the fragment is extracted.

Each operation is visually confirmed by a status message (e.g. “Note saved successfully”, “Reference added”), reducing the risk of error during the working session.

Personal notes represent an annotation tool that allows the researcher to record observations or comments related to the identified texts.

Main functionalities

• creation of new notes via the icon;
• ability to edit or delete existing notes;
• automatic and persistent saving of notes in the database;
• direct linking between the note and the related textual result.

In parallel, the platform allows adding bibliographic references via the Bibliographic Reference entry. By clicking the icon, the Zotero icon is displayed directly, linking to the page of the related bibliographic record.

The system automatically verifies the validity of the reference and permanently associates it with the selected textual result.

All user interactions (notes, references, comparisons, saves) are recorded and stored in the platform database. This ensures that, upon subsequent access, every previously performed activity is available in the same state in which it was left.

Persistence management rules:

• each authenticated user has a personal space for their searches and notes;
• data are not shared between users unless explicitly exported;
• changes are saved in real time, without the need for manual confirmation;
• the history of operations is accessible from the Flows section, which tracks every update.

In this way, the system ensures workflow continuity, data security, and full traceability of research activity.

The Notes module has been enhanced with a functionality that allows direct localization of notes within the textual context. This option makes it possible to highlight, within the result, the portion of text associated with the selected note, improving orientation and readability.

Main features

• by clicking the icon within the results table, the system opens the side notes panel;
• each displayed note includes:
  • the annotation text;
  • the creation date and last modification date;
  • the indication of the position in the text (work, chapter, verse, or reference segment);
• by pressing the “View Text” button, the platform automatically highlights in the result body the related textual part using a visual marker (colored highlight).

Dynamic interaction

• the user can switch from one note to another while keeping the highlight active in the text;
• changes made to notes (text, title, deletion) are immediately reflected both in the panel and in the associated result;
• closing the panel automatically removes highlights from the text, restoring the standard visualization.

Functional advantages

• facilitates visual association between annotation and reference text;
• improves navigation among multiple notes within the same result;
• reduces the risk of ambiguity during review or comparison.
