Homepage and main search functionalities
General structure
The operational homepage of the Gnorm module corresponds to the Corpus Iuris Canonici section, which represents the main access point to the corpora. The interface is composed of two top tabs:
- Corpus Iuris Canonici
- Babylonian Talmud
From this screen, users can start a search, filter results, or manually browse the available canonical texts. The interface maintains a clean layout consistent with the visual identity of the ITSERR project, with the logo positioned in the top left corner and the session bar (Access/Logout) in the top right corner.
Search section
The left side of the homepage hosts the search panel. The main components are:
- A free text input field (Free text search…) for entering keywords;
- Drop-down menus:
- Select Collection in the *Corpus Iuris Canonici*, which allows users to restrict the search to specific collections or texts;
- Select Order in the *Babylonian Talmud*, which allows users to restrict the search to a specific order;
- Search and Reset buttons, used respectively to start or clear the search;
- An Export button located in the top right corner, available for exporting data or notes.
Searches can be performed across the entire corpus or within specific texts, enabling flexible and targeted queries.
Corpus structure
The Corpus Iuris Canonici section displays the list of the main normative texts:
- Decretum Gratiani
- Liber Extra
- Liber Sextus Decretalium
- Clementinae
- Extravagantes Ioannis XXII
- Extravagantes Communes
Each entry can be expanded, allowing users to explore the internal structure of the corpus (books, chapters, sections). The visualization is dynamic and maintains consistent behavior across all devices.
Authenticated and non-authenticated state
- Non-authenticated users can perform searches and view results, but cannot create notes or export data.
- Authenticated users (Researcher, WP Lead, or Admin) have access to additional functionalities:
- Creation and management of notes;
- Export of results in CSV or JSON format;
- Internal navigation within text sections.
After login, the Access button is replaced by Logout, and the additional functionalities become active.
Export button
The Export button, available on all pages of the platform, allows users to export the displayed data and, when available, any associated personal notes. Export functionality is reserved for authenticated users and provides different options depending on the consulted content.
General functionalities
When the button is selected, a modal window is displayed allowing the user to choose the export format:
- JSON → useful for structured or interoperable applications and analyses;
- CSV → compatible with spreadsheets or data analysis tools.
After selecting the format, the user can:
- Enable the option Include personal annotations to include personal notes in the exported file.
Finally, clicking the Export button confirms the operation.
Contextual behavior
The Export button maintains the same behavior across all platform modules (*Corpus Iuris Canonici*, *Liber Extra*, *Babylonian Talmud*), but may show slight variations in the exportable content:
- In the canonical corpora (*Decretum Gratiani*, *Liber Extra*), it includes texts, search results, and notes;
- In the *Babylonian Talmud*, the exported content follows the system’s standard format and may include personal annotations via the appropriate flag.
Notes and annotations management
The ITSERR platform includes an integrated system for the creation, visualization, and management of personal notes, available to authenticated users. This functionality allows users to associate observations or comments with specific passages of the displayed texts, facilitating analytical and comparative work.
Creating a new note
Notes can be created by selecting a portion of text and choosing the Add Note option from the contextual panel. Once created, the note is saved in the user’s personal profile and can be accessed at any time from the Notes section.
Viewing and searching saved notes
Within the notes page, the following elements are available:
- A text search field to quickly locate previously created notes;
- A list of saved notes, each linked to the text or section from which it originated;
- Quick actions such as opening, editing, or deleting individual notes.
Interaction with modules
The notes system is available within the text consultation modules, such as:
- Corpus Iuris Canonici (including the *Decretum Gratiani* and *Liber Extra* sections);
- Babylonian Talmud.
In all these sections, the Notes button appears in the top bar next to Export, allowing direct access to the annotations page.
Notes export
Notes can be exported together with textual data using the Export button, as described in the *Export button* section. During the export process, users can choose whether to include personal annotations in the exported file (CSV or JSON formats).
Availability and scope of use
- The feature is available only to authenticated users;
- Notes remain personal and are not shared with other users;
- In the event of logout, notes remain associated with the account and can be retrieved upon the next login.
Institutional footer
At the bottom of each page, an informational footer common to all ITSERR project modules is displayed. The footer serves both descriptive and support functions, ensuring visual continuity and institutional recognition across the platform.
It includes:
- A brief description of the project:
- Italian Strengthening of the ESFRI RI RESILIENCE*;
- Links to informational and support sections, including:
- For Researchers*, *For Developers*, *For WP Management*, *FAQ*, *Forum*, *Helpdesk*;
- Two sections dedicated to user feedback:
- Propose addition* (to suggest new resources or integrations) and
- Suggest correction* (to propose changes or corrections to existing data);
- Links to policies: *Terms* and *Privacy*;
- Institutional logos of MUR, RESILIENCE, and the University of Palermo (Unipa), together with the indication of European funding;
- Social media icons for the project’s official channels (YouTube, LinkedIn, and Facebook).
The footer maintains visual and institutional consistency throughout the portal, ensuring graphical uniformity and recognition of the ITSERR brand.
